  • Laura Carr is Walking To Cure Diabetes
This past April our Fraternity Brother Michael Carr & his wife Laura's beautiful seven year old daughter, Caitlyn, was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes (Type 1). Type 1 diabetes is a devastating, often deadly, disease that affects millions of people. Aside from the daily challenges Cailtlyn faces living with diabetes, which include monitoring her blood sugar by pricking her fingers 4-7 times per day, injecting four shots of insulin per day and a rigid diet, there are many severe, often fatal, complications caused by the disease. But, as you may know, insulin is not a cure, it is merely Caitlyn's life support. It's our mission to avoid the heart and kidney disease, blindness, amputation, and early death that is a reality for many people with juvenile diabetes. That's the bad news . . .The good news is that a cure for Type 1 diabetes is within reach. In fact, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is associated with most major scientific breakthroughs in Type 1 diabetes research to date. And JDRF funds a major portion of all Type 1 diabetes research worldwide, more than any other charity. For the first time, scientists are predicting that we can expect to see a cure within our lifetime! On October 26, Mike & Laura Carr will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes with one-half million other walkers across the country. Our goal is to raise $100 million to help fund research for a cure for Type 1 diabetes and its complications. If you would like to support our efforts, please click into the link above which will take you to Laura Carr's Fundraising page. There you can either donate to support Caitlyn's Crew, or you may join her team and walk beside her to help cure Diabetes! We hope someday to be able to say her daughter HAD diabetes! Thank you, Indian Society Alumni Association, Laura & Michael Carr
