The Indian Society was founded at the Brooklyn campus of St. John’s University in the year 1930.
For over 75 years, the spirit of the Indian Society has enriched the lives of hundreds of men at SJU with its emphasis on unity and brotherhood. From its inception, the Indian Society has been the pride of the University with more than 500 initiated members.
One of St. John’s oldest fraternities, the Indian Society is proud of its rich history. The ideals envisioned by our Founders are timeless and have remained constant throughout the years, inspiring pride in each member to adhere to our motto “We Are One”.
Our Founders left us a great legacy--they taught us the value of unity and brotherhood. Our alumni have passed on these ideals to us and have taught us to support one another through shared experiences and understanding. They have also taught us to serve others--to reach out to those less fortunate to make their lives better.
The brothers of the Indian Society are committed to pass on these ideals and traditions to future generations.
If you are an alumni of the Indian Society, please contact us so that we may learn more about our history. We would like to document on this site, significant events in chronological order from our inception in 1930 to the present. Specifically, we are interested in our history as it relates to the Brooklyn Campus’ from 1930 to about 1970, and also how the fraternity transitioned to the Staten Island campus around 1971.
